Summer in Pictures

June 24, 2010

Summer is my absolute favorite time of year. Lucky for me, I’m a Floridian and most of our year could probably be considered “summer” to the rest of the world.

The other day I started thinking about some of my favorite summery pictures. It seems that in this digital age we have thousands of pictures, many of which never get shared or even looked at after the initial download from our cameras. If my iPhoto could talk it would probably share my sentiments. So, with that in mind, I am sharing some of my favorite summer pictures. Some old, some new.

Here we go…

Circa 1953-1954: Love this picture of my Dad at the beach with his Dad and Sister.

August 2004: Nothing says summer like camp and a little "Camp Idol" complete with William Hung, Ryan Seacrest, Ashton Kutcher, Kasey, Paula & Simon

June 2006: My sweet nephew, Paul, is a Florida boy through and through. He's always loved the beach house.

July 2006: See? Told ya. He LOVES the beach!

July 2006: Learning to surf. Love it.

August 2006: Of course summer means attempting to surf with Dawn as a tropical storm is making its way to shore. Duh.

June 2007: Summer means mission trips whenever possible. Love serving alongside Dr. Kuhl!

July 2007: Who doesn't love summer sunsets? Especially those in Tamarindo, Costa Rica. And especially sunsets you watch in Costa Rica while surfing. 🙂

September 2008: The perfect ending to summer always means a weekend with the Chanda girls.

May 2010: Loving summer walks on the beach with this guy.

June 2010: Just starting to make summer memories with sweet Cadence and she's already proving to be a true Florida girl. She loves the water!

Have You Seen This?! Yikes!

July 17, 2008

Saw this on the news last night…yikes! This picture was taken last week in New Symrna Beach by Kem McNair. In case you don’t know, New Symrna is just across the inlet from the beach house! YIKES! I’m hoping those spinner sharks like the New Symrna side of the inlet better than the Ponce side. I want to surf next week! 🙂

And, my friends, when you’re in the ocean and you see a dark mass, but a “friend” tells you “it’s probably just a trash can” don’t believe them! 🙂

On Surfari – My New Favorite Show

July 13, 2008

A few months ago I happened upon this terrific show on the Fuel channel. On Surfari shows the worldwide travels of Shayne and Shannon McIntyre and their search for surf on any coast they can find it. They even take their little son with them.

From the first time I saw the show, I had a very satisfying suspicion that the McIntyre’s are Christians. It was such a pleasant discovery. The first episode I watched found Shayne and Shannon seeking waves in Italy. Shayne explained how he’d first read about waves in Italy in the Bible. He told about Paul’s adventures and from then on I was so intrigued. I immediately set the DVR to record every episode of On Surfari it could find. At the end of nearly every episode, during the credits, they give thanks to God or Jesus Christ. And, some of the songs they use during their shows even point to their unwavering faith. And, even more, from what I’ve seen on the show, they live their lives in such a way that proves their love for God and love for people.

What a blessing! Two really cool people, who are really good at what they do, who love God, who have no shame in that and who live that lifestyle in a way that translates through the TV to those watching.

Today I did a little bit of shameless internet surfing and found out that Shannon does some amazing art. She’s done some murals and such on the show, but I had no idea she had things available for purchase. Now, I just have to decide which one I want in my new house. 🙂

Also, in my shameless internet surfing, I found this interview and it confirmed again for me how cool these two are. Check it out.

So, if you get Fuel (Channel 740 on Comcast Digital Cable), check out On Surfari. It’s ok if you’re not into surfing because they do plenty of traveling and talking about the cultures of the places they visit. You will learn plenty about new places and maybe even something about God, too.
