2011 Homespun Chic Marketplace

May 4, 2011

Back over in the comments on this post, sweet Cheryl asked how the 2011 Homespun Chic Marketplace in Winter Park went. We (Kati and I, with Two Florida Girls) participated in the inaugural Homespun event last August and signed up for the second one in April. We also convinced several of our crafty friends to participate too and that made it extra fun.

Ready to go!

 Surprisingly, the traffic at the April event was much, much less than that of the August event. It was a beautiful day (whereas in August it started pouring down rain about halfway through). I guess that could have worked for, and against, us. Nice day = people want to be outside, on the water, planting gardens, enjoying the perfect day outside. Who knows. Regardless, we had a great time and still made a little bit of money. We gave away yummy cake balls, so that certainly made us popular with everyone. Rebecca, the organizer of the event, is working to plan another one in November. We will definitely be back for round three. 🙂

Part of our display.

Our fabric display (aka my nightstand). 🙂

We debuted our new "Florida Love" shirt design at the show. Now available in our Etsy shop!

Our full space, with a hint of Kimberly's table over in the left corner. 🙂

Kimberly is one of the “crafty friends” that we convinced to participate in the marketplace with us.

You can check out links to all the vendors from the show over at the Homespun Marketplace site, but here are links to all of our friends that participated…

Kasey with Autumn & Everything After
Kimberly with whimZy
Katie with KT Paints
Cathleen with TripleCDesigns
Kelly with Gongy & Squish

And, of course, you can check us out at Two Florida Girls. 🙂

Google Reader Stars

February 4, 2011

This week I “starred” a handful of posts in my Google Reader, meaning I want to come back to them for some reason. Thought I’d share them here too. You might find something interesting! 🙂

From Nelliev2's Etsy Shop

45 Super Bowl Recipes for Super Bowl XLV by Brown Eyed Baker–lots of recipes to check out!

Baked Spinach Dip Mini Bread Bowls by Picky Palate–want to make these next time I’m cooking for a party. They look so good!

Virtual Baby Shower by Annie’s Eats–again, lots of recipes to check out!

Super Bowl Eats by Picky Palate–annnnd…more recipes to check out! (Seeing a theme here?)

Create with Me – Rosette Frame Gallery by UCreate–truthfully, I’m not sure why I starred this one. Maybe so I can get Kasey to make me one?

Blissdom 2011 Recap by Gussy Sews–she has lots of links in her recap of the blogging conference she went to and I want to check them out.

How to Roast Garlic by Joy the Baker–must try this!

Homemade Chili and Taco Seasoning by My Baking Addiction–lately I’ve been thinking, “there has to be a way to make taco seasoning so that you can stop buying those Taco Bell kits at Publix.” Here it is! Have to try it!

Two Florida Girls Etsy-versary!

January 28, 2011

Today, we celebrate the two year anniversary of Two Florida Girls. What fun it continues to be!

During Two Florida Girls‘ second year, we…

…introduced our divided heart & football onesies;
…added Florida Gators and FSU Seminoles inspired hair clips;
…organized the Etsy for Ava fundraiser to support a sweet family in our community;
…did our first onesie order for triplets. Super cute idea!
…offered custom initial onesies and shirts for the first time;
…designed a super cute “Surf’s Up” onesie;
…participated in the First Homespun Chic Marketplace in August. Looking forward to April for round 2;
…participated in the 2nd Annual Holiday Handmade Open House in November.

It’s been a great two years! We’ve had so much fun and “met” so many wonderful people via the Etsy community. We’ve had such a great time creating.

Kati and I are so excited that we want to let you in on the celebration.

SALE–All ready to ship items have been marked down at least 35%! Prices have already been changed in our shop to reflect the sale. No coupon code needed! Some items are as low as $1.95 (plus shipping)! Custom orders (like bean bags, pacifiers, onesies, etc) and items not marked as “SALE” are subject to normal prices. Sale runs from now through Saturday, February 5.

GIVEAWAY–We are hosting a giveaway for our Facebook fans. Not a fan yet? No worries. Click here and “like” our page. Then you’ll be able to enter to win any “ready to ship” item from our shop.

NEW PRODUCTS–We do anticipate introducing some new items soon. But don’t want to give anything away just yet. Stay tuned. 🙂

Thanks for a wonderful two years on Etsy! Looking forward to many more!

November 11, 2010

…to let you know about this…

Etsy for Ava…start shopping TODAY!

September 8, 2010

So, as you probably recall, in a post I wrote last week Kati and I suggested our idea to bless the family of a little girl in our area. Sweet little Ava fought her 10-week battle with brain cancer courageously, but she went to be with Jesus on Sunday. It’s hard to imagine what her family and friends are walking through right now. (For more on Ava’s story, check out her Dad’s blog.) In honor of Ava’s life and her family’s faith, we are continuing on with the Etsy for Ava fundraiser. Several Etsy shops responded to the idea and have also listed items in their shops to benefit the Ava Hunter Fund that’s already been established. Proceeds from the sale of these items will go directly to helping Ava’s family with whatever financial needs they may have.

Click the link below to be directed straight to the
search results on Etsy that includes all items in the

Etsy for Ava Fundraiser

Also, help us spread the word! Feel free to use the “Etsy for Ava” artwork as your Facebook profile page, or post it to your blog. Email it to everyone you know. An easy way to get people directly to the search results is to use this address–http://tinyurl.com/etsyforava. That’ll take people directly to the items listed as part of the fundraiser (and it won’t take up your entire Facebook/Twitter status). 🙂

Thanks for caring enough to help bless this family as they walk through something no one should ever have to. Thanks for continuing to pray for them.

Sweet Ava

And, thank you to the following shops who have listed items:

Autumn & Everything After
Birds Eye View

Bubblegum Kisses
Gongy & Squish
Happy Lappy
Lisa D Jewelry
L.Tipping Paintings
Moon Lily Designs
Mrs. Jones’ Soapbox
Second Glantz Crafts
Snow Jeweler
Snugglebug Collection
Two Florida Girls

(And, it’s not too late to add your shop to the list. Want to participate? Comment on this blog post and we’ll get you all the detailed information about the fundraiser.)

UPDATE: Etsy for Ava

September 6, 2010

By now you may have heard that on Sunday sweet Ava went to be with Jesus. As her Daddy said, “Ava has gone to be with Jesus. Thank you for your prayers. We are heartbroken for us, but know she is whole again. We serve a mighty God and are blessed by all of you. Continue to pray for Lisa, Noah and me as we walk the days ahead.” If you haven’t been to Ava’s Dad’s blog in the last day or so, I’d recommend reading his most recent post. While it is heartbreaking, you will also be encouraged by his faith in our God.

In honor of Ava and her family, we’re going to move forward with the Etsy for Ava fundraiser. Each shop owner who’d like to participate will still be responsible for listing and tagging their items, and then contributing the proceeds directly to the Ava Hunter Fund (details below). All funds will be made available to the family to use for whatever they need.

So…once again, here’s the bottom line and next steps…

  1. List and tag the item(s) you’d like to include in the sale by Wednesday, September 8. Use Ava Hunter as one of your tags and also include her name in the title of your item. Feel free to continue adding items as we go along as well.
  2. Help us continue to recruit participating shops, even after Wednesday. Let’s get as many people as possible involved. Have them email us at this email address for all the info and to let us know they’d like to participate. We’d like to be able to keep a current list of those participating so that we can be sure to thank everyone and also follow up regarding donations at the end.
  3. Help spread the word about the sale once the items are live. We will post blogs about it and we’ll be sure to send you a direct link listing the Ava Hunter search results on Etsy. Feel free to repost our blog addresses and/or the direct link to the search results. Also, feel free to use the “Etsy for Ava” art in this blog post as your Facebook profile picture or within your Etsy item photos. (Thanks to Katie of KT Photography & Design for creating that little image for us.)
  4. Donate your proceeds directly to the Ava Hunter Fund. From what we understand, donations can only be made by check. Any one wishing to contribute can send a check made payable to the “Ava Hunter Fund” to: Citizens Bank of Florida, Att: Jolene Burns. P.O. Box 620729, Oviedo, FL 32762-0729. We’ll find out if it’s possible to donate online.

Feel free to send this blog post to any Etsy shop owner you think may be interested in helping. And, of course, please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks so much!

On Wednesday, I’ll post a direct link to the Ava Hunter search results on Etsy to make shopping super easy for folks. Thanks for caring enough to honor the memory of sweet Ava and the courage of her family.
